Friday the Thirteenth Is Mine

In short: Cathy celebrates an unlucky date. The Haunting includes jump scares and confined spaces, so anyone with a heart condition or anxiety should mention it at check-in; a panic button lets any player leave early while the group plays on.

Friday. The thirteenth! Everyone says it is unlucky. I have decided it is my birthday. Nobody can prove it isn’t.

I made the most of it. Things fell over that had been standing still for years. Doors I don’t usually bother with went bang. One man jumped so high he touched a lampshade, and I have been trying to touch that lampshade for ages.

A girl pressed the Goodbye Button halfway through and a grown-up came and walked her out, kindly, the way they always do. Her friends played on and talked about her the whole time, nicely. I hope she comes back on a Tuesday, when I am calmer.

The Beeping Man was across the road all night, very excited, beeping at the moon. He thinks tonight means something. It does. It means I had a lovely time.

They press a panic button and leave. A gamesmaster watches The Haunting on CCTV throughout and will let them out at once, while the rest of the group can carry on.
