Halloween on a Sunday

In short: Halloween again. The Haunting fills up on busy nights, so groups should book early on the live calendar. Its nursery is crowded with Cathy’s broken toys, from eyeless dolls to a torn teddy and a battered rocking horse.

Sunday. Halloween! On a Sunday, which is a strange day for it, but nobody seemed to mind. Every game in my house was taken, from the afternoon until the very last one. The grown-ups say the people who booked early got in, and the people who didn’t stood on the footpath looking at their phones.

I lined up my toys at the window to watch the costumes go past. The bear with no stuffing. The dolls with no eyes, who watch anyway. Pudding at the front, because he is tallest. Lake Street looked up and saw us and screamed, and we all felt very appreciated.

The Beeping Man had his busiest night of the year. He told a crowd of vampires about me for nearly an hour. They told him he was the best costume they had seen. He wasn’t wearing one.

Two years ago I said every night should be Halloween. I take it back. If every night was Halloween, it wouldn’t feel like this.

FAQ

What this page answers

Should we book The Haunting ahead of time?

Yes, where you can. Evenings and weekends get busy at Escape This Northbridge, so booking The Haunting early is the safest bet. Last-minute bookings are fine if the live calendar still shows a free slot.

Why are there so many broken toys in The Haunting?

They belong to Cathy. The Haunting’s nursery is crowded with her mangled playthings, from eyeless dolls to a torn teddy and an old rocking horse. Working through her collection without upsetting her is the heart of the game.
