The Two Big Steps

In short: Cathy watches a group choose another room. The Haunting can’t take wheelchairs: there are two large steps up to the rooms and the game includes crawling and tight spaces. The Escape This team helps such groups pick an accessible room.

Friday. A lady came to my front door in a wheelchair tonight with five friends. There are two big steps up to my rooms, and the low parts of my house that you have to go through on your knees, and the grown-ups explained all of it before anyone had to find out the hard way.

They didn’t just send her home. They sat down with the group and helped them choose a different Escape This room for another night, one she could go all the way round, and off they went down the stairs, laughing and already arguing about it.

I was jealous of that other room for a whole evening. Then I decided it’s good that there are rooms for everyone, even if my house isn’t one of them. Mine has steps, and steps are very old-fashioned. So am I.

She waved at my window when they left. Everyone waves at my window. I am starting to think it is a tradition.

FAQ

What this page answers

Can a wheelchair user join us in Atkins House?

No. The Haunting isn’t suitable for wheelchairs: the Northbridge rooms are up two large steps and the game involves crawling through tight spaces. The team can help you find an accessible Escape This room instead.

Will we have to crawl through Atkins House?

Yes. The Haunting has a crawl space and other tight spots, so it may not suit anyone who is pregnant or has mobility difficulties. Have a word with the team before you book if that applies to someone in your group.
